DISCUSSION GUIDE WEEK 4
Opening Question: Have you ever really needed help? Was there a time in your life that if somebody didn’t come through with something you knew you were in trouble? Talk about these times.

Begin by asking for the groups thoughts on the video and their concept of depending on others in community. (Is this hard for Americans? Why or why not?)
We need community...Read Acts 2:42-47 and 4:32-37.
1. What would it look like to truly depend on others during this “middle stage.” (as described in the video)
2. As a group, take the time to list out what characteristics you see present in this early group of believers.
3. Next, take the time to be honest and each share a need that you have in your life. We encourage the groups to not only pray for the meeting of this need, but to prayerfully consider how the group, or those within the group can express the character of God in meeting that need. Maybe that need will involve more than this direct group. If so, bring this need to our pastoral team so we can follow up.
Take some time to read the following verses that begin to scratch the surface of what true dependence on other Christ followers looks like.
John 13:34; Romans 12:10; Galatians 5:13; Ephesians 4:32; I Thessalonians 4:18; James 5:16
How are you doing, honestly, at being on the giving end of this? Being transformed into this type of community will take time and initiative on our part. Can you list three ways in which you can apply these scriptures to those around you in the next week? Share these experiences with your group when you get together again!
Personal Connect from Pastor Jeremy
Many years ago, when I was in my Rock ‘n’ Roll band stage, I had a terrible accident. I fell down a flight of stairs while carrying a 70lb pound Guitar Amp. I landed on my back with the amp landing on my chest. I ended up breaking my sternum in two spots and wound up laying on my back for nearly two months. I was a self employed building contractor and so that meant no work and no income. (The real bummer was that I had to cancel a couple of shows for my band!) One day when I was laying on my back we get a knock at the door and out of the blue some people walked in with bags and bags and bags of groceries and personal care items. We were blown away. We didn’t want to admit it but we were broke and getting broker by the day. These people were from the church we had recently started attending. We hardly knew them but there was little doubt that God sent them our way in a moment of Dependence. We don’t always need something physical like Lynette and I did but we all need people in our lives to care about us. None of us are so tough and independent that we can do life alone. We are wired by God ‘to do life...TOGETHER.’
